Care
The baby hammock is prewashed and is therefore ready for use when you receive it. It can be hand washed at 40 degrees. We recommend that you do not wash your kapok mattress, but rather shake it regularly or hang it outdoors to aerate where possible.

1. Installation:
Ensure you set-up the Baby Hammock securely and safely in accordance with the user manual.

2. Environment:
Prepare a calm and quiet area of your home for the Baby Hammock to be used in – this will help deliver a great sleeping environment. Try placing a familiar item such as a muslin cloth or stuffed toy in the Baby Hammock for a few days before you introduce it to your baby. This familiar smell will help baby adapt to their new sleeping surrounds.

3. Start slow:
Rocking should be introduced gently and slowly – either manually or with our Moonboon Motor. You can gradually increase the tempo and duration of rocking as your baby gets used to it. You’ll soon learn what works for you.

Every baby is different, and some may take longer than others to adapt to the Baby Hammock. Be patient, observe their cues, and make adjustments accordingly.

If you're not sure what accessories are right for you and your baby, then this might be the right thing for you! We’ve collected a few accessories here, which we call our essentials for the baby hammock.

First off, we recommend the hammock stiffener, which will extend and slightly flatten the lying base of the hammock and give your baby more space, extending the time you can use the hammock for. We also always recommend a waterproof mattress protector, because little accidents can always happen and it’s nice to know that no matter what your baby hammock won’t be ruined. Both of these can nicely be paired with a sheet for the baby hammock to round off the look inside your baby’s sleep space.

We also love to recommend adding the heaven canopy to your baby hammock to reduce ambient light and minimize sleep disturbances, as well as an added layer of safety with the Mattress Fixi that keeps your little one lying snug and centered on the mattress.

CHOOSE SAFETY

You never compromise on your baby’s safety, and we don’t either! Therefore we have created an overview of important things to keep in mind when shopping baby sleep products, so that you and your baby can sleep soundly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BABY HAMMOCK

Your baby may, in principle, sleep in the hammock for as long as necessary.

However, we recommend that you use the baby hammock as a supplement to a real bed, as your baby should also be able to sleep on a firm mattress.

If you are unsure about your baby’s sleep pattern and needs, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or health visitor.

You can easily use the baby hammock at night. However, it is important not to let him or her sleep in the baby hammock without supervision.

We recommend that you use the baby hammock as a supplement, as you baby also must have the opportunity to sleep on a firm mattress. The baby hammock should never replace a real bed.

We do not recommend using the baby hammock as soon as your baby can turn over.

Also be aware that your baby should be able to turn his/her head freely, and the head must not be pressed against the chest.

At Moonboon, we always provide guidance according to the health authorities, but at the moment there are no specific recommendations about using a baby hammock. If you are unsure about your baby’s sleep pattern and needs, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or health visitor.

No, due to the shape of the baby hammock the baby’s back head should not be flat. However, if you have a stiffener in the hammock, it is important to turn the baby’s head a little bit to each side if the baby takes some long naps in the hammock.

There are no studies that show that the baby hammock is not good for the baby. Moonboon’s baby hammock is tested and lives up to all the safety standards within this area.

When the hammock arrives from Moonboon, you will find the organic kapok mattress tucked into its internal pocket. Being a natural material, the kapok inside the mattress may “settle” and retain the bend it had during shipping.

This may cause lopsidedness. Fortunately, there is an easy fix: Take the mattress out of the hammock and manually redistribute and even out the kapok filling. Work especially on the filling in the side that baby tended to roll toward. Then place the mattress back into the hammock's pocket.

It is important that you tie the hammock’s 4 ties securely to help it hang straight. This applies to the two ties at the sides to be fastened to the cross bar and the two ties at the top of the hammock.

Yes indeed. Ceilings differ in terms of the materials they are made of. Concrete, drywall / gypsum, and wood, as examples, have different characteristics. Each type of ceiling will require a specific type of hook. That is why we do not include a hook with your Moonboon purchase.

We recommend that you check with your local building center or home improvement store and ask for guidance in terms of hanging the hammock securely.

It is recommended that you hang any weight from a structural beam in the ceiling.

The Moonboon hammock may be washed by hand at just over 40 degrees C / 100 degrees F. We do not recommend machine washing as the metal ring of the hammock may cause damage to your washing machine.

The internal kapok mattress does not tolerate being laundered, but it benefits from being aired outdoors once a month or so. Kapok is a hypoallergenic and breathable natural fiber that would be degraded if washed. We recommend that you clean minor stains by rubbing a small amount of soap and water on them

To protect your baby hammock and your kapok mattress, we recommend you purchase a waterproof mattress protector, which will help extend the lifespan of your mattress.

The most important difference between our hammock and cradle is the type of base. The cradle has long interior dimensions and a flat base, which some children prefer. At the same time the cradle has the same calming effect as the hammock.

The design of the cradle is meant for children who take comfort in watching everything that goes on around them, or children who are warm when they are asleep

If your child is not comfortable with the curve of the baby hammock, the cradle would be an ideal choice.

If you use the Cradle after your child has learned to roll over on its own, we advise constant supervision.

Babies are used to being held and rocked throughout the time they spent in their mother's womb, and therefore this is a feeling they connect to being safe and relaxed - a prerequisite for good sleep. A baby hammock simulates this feeling, making the little ones feel cradled and held, whilst gently rocking them to sleep in smooth movements. This in many cases means that babies have an easier time falling asleep, sleeping with fewer to no interruptions and only waking up when they are well rested. In addition to making your baby sleep more and better, a baby hammock also gives you as the parent to opportunity to have your hands free for other activities, such as playing with the older kids, enjoying some time by yourself or simply taking a nap.

Yes it is. The baby hammock can easily be de-mounted and backed into the tote bag it came in to accompany you and your little one on your travels. When traveling internationally, be aware of different electrical sockets and don't forget your adaptor kit to use your cradle bouncer for better sleep, no matter where.

Yes the baby hammock can be used outdoors. We recommend making sure that it is hanging/standing sturdily on a stable surface so it cannot fall over. Additionally, we recommend using a mosquito net in the warmer months to prevent you baby from being pestered by insects. In summer it is also recommended to place the hammock in the shade when using it outside and checking on your baby regularly to make sure it does not get to warm.

In general no, but this depends on their age. As a newborn, babies are unable to move by themselves, so it is not possible for them to roll or fall out of the baby hammock if placed in it correctly. As they grow older, babies are able to move and climb by themselves more and more, therefore we recommend that you only use the baby hammock when you are able to watch your child if it has learned to climb and sit up by itself.

Our baby hammock is made of organic, GOTS-certified and untreated cotton, that is breathable and safe for babies to sleep in. Additionally, the mattress of our baby hammock is made with kapok - a natural fibre that is hypoallergenic, temperature regulating and very soft, making it the ideal material for the mattress.

The baby hammock itself can safely carry up to 20kgs, however the regular spring of the baby hammock can only carry up to 12kgs. Therefore it is important to remember to use the spring+ if you wish to use the baby hammock when your baby weighs more than 12kgs (and up to 20kgs).

Your baby may, in principle, sleep in the hammock for as long as necessary, starting from the day it is born up until it weighs around 12kgs. Should you wish to use the baby hammock for longer after your baby weighs 12kgs, there are a few things to remember. First off, upgrade the spring of the hammock to the spring+ to use it up until a weight of 20kgs. Secondly, it is important to remember that we do not recommend using the baby hammock once your child can climb or sit up by itself. Should you wish to continue using it, please supervise your child whilst it is in the hammock.

We also recommend that you use the baby hammock as a supplement to a 'normal' bed, as your baby should also be able to sleep on a flat and firm mattress.

If you are unsure about your baby’s sleep pattern and needs, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or health visitor.

As long as you follow the recommendations found in the usermanual, the use of a baby hammock is safe. At Moonboon, we always follow the recommendations of health authorities, however there are currently no specific ones given out by local health authorities specifically for the hammock. Therefore, we recommend using the baby hammock by placing your baby in the middle of the mattress while it cannot sit up or turn by itself, and stop using it once it is able to do so.

This is very dependent on your baby, but in general using a baby hammock can aid the development of sleeping habits of babies. As the baby hammock represents a space in which your baby feels at ease and safe, it will likely learn to associate the soothing environment and movements with relaxation and sleep, which can lead to the establishment of healthy sleep habits.

The short answer is yes, however it is more likely that your baby will get used to the soothing movements of the motor rather than the baby hammock itself, and this does have to be something negative or bad. The process of getting used to sleeping in the baby hammock essentially can be compared to creating a sleep habit or conditioned reflex, where through doing the same thing over and over often enough - using the hammock, the baby gets used to it and will respond in the same way - sleep. Therefore, using a baby hammock can help your child find peace and relax when drifting off to sleep and in a way comparable to being read a bedtime story or brushing ones teeth before going to bed.

Yes, you can use the baby hammock with your newborn baby. Make sure to place it safely in the center of the mattress and test out which rocking tempo of the motor is best suited for your baby.

In order to make sure your baby is lying in the hammock correctly - in the middle of the mattress and on its back - make sure to place it in the centre of the hammock and adjust the position if needed. In the first few months of their life, babies cannot turn around by themselves and therefore should be lying safely on their back. Babies have a heavier torso than legs, therefore it makes sense to place your baby's torso in the middle of the mattress so that it safely lies on its back. Furthermore, if your baby is able to move and sit up on its own, we recommend no longer using the baby hammock. Should you wish to still use your hammock, we advise supervising your baby constantly.

In theory yes, but we do not recommend it, as it weakens the fabric of the baby hammock and can lead to holes forming in it from the strain of the carrier's rigid shape on the hammock in movement.

The kapok mattress does not tolerate being laundered, but it benefits from being aired outdoors once a month or so. Kapok is a hypoallergenic and breathable natural fiber that would be degraded if washed. We recommend that you clean minor stains by rubbing a small amount of soap and water on them.

To protect your kapok mattress, we recommend you purchase a waterproof mattress protector, which will help extend the lifespan of your mattress.

The shape of the baby hammock creates a cradling environment that alongside the movements of the motor are reminiscent of the time in the womb for the baby. This means that the baby will feel safe and will be able to relax easily. As a flat base of a cradle does not support the same slightly-curved position the baby is used to from being inside the womb and generally represents a more open environment, this can in cases be overwhelming or alientating for newborns, making it harder for them to feel at ease and find rest.

The hammock is designed to fit snugly around baby and provide comfort, but as baby grows, space gets sparse. We recommend that you purchase a hammock stiffener to give the baby firm support.
We recommend that you use the stiffener from around 3-4 months depending on the baby’s weight and size. The stiffener is an add-on the hammock that adds more space. It is not a requirement to have/use the stiffener.

No. The weighted products are not designed to be used with the baby hammock. However, they are developed to help the child find the same sense of calmness as with the baby hammock with motor.

Therefore, it makes sense to switch to a weighted product when your child is ready to move on from the baby hammock but still needs a little help to settle down.

We recommend placing the waterproof mattress protector onto the kapok mattress so that all corners are aligned and then placing the fitted sheet on top so that it fits snuggly in to the hammock. In order to protect your hammock and mattress from little accidents, we recommend placing the mattress with the protector and the sheet into the hammock ontop of the mattress pocket, rather than inside it.

Yes, both our Motor Original and our Motor Connect are suited to be used with the baby hammock.

The hammock stiffener can be placed in the baby hammock under the mattress or as a replacement for the mattress when your child gets a little bigger to flatten and lengthen the baby hammock's lying base, ensuring that your child has enough space to relax in the baby hammock.
